People turn violent over death of Temple tusker at Ambalappuzha

Thiruvananthapuram, April 8(BPNS)

Animal lovers and people who lives around the famous Ambalappuzha Sreekrishna Swamy temple turned violent after the death of the temple tusker, Ambalappuha Vijayakrishnan who is a pet of the local people.

Local people blocked the Travacnore Dewaswom Board (TDB) president , N Vasu and prevented him from entering the temple premises where the body of the tusker is kept.

People have threatened that the funeral of the elephant will not be allowed unless action is taken against the Deputy Dewaswom Commissioner of TDB and the Mahouts who were irresponsible in providing proper treatment to the elephant.

Shankar Menon, an Engineer with a government department and an avid elephant lover while speaking to BPNS said,” The death of Vijayakrishnan is owing to the callous attitude taken by the Dewaswom board officials and mahouts. Unless action is taken against the Deputy Dewaswom Commissioner and the mahouts responsible we will not allow the body of Vijaykrishnan to be taken out for funeral.”

The situation at Ambalappuzha Sreekrishnaswamy temple and its premises are witnessing heated scenes with the mob turning  violent possibilities of a police action is imminent.
