TN Medical College hospitals directed to vaccinate by-standers, mess workers during mega vaccine drive

Tamil Nadu Director of Medical Education( DME), Dr. R. THNarayana Babu has directed the deans of all Medical colleges to conduct 100% vaccination in the hospitals attached to the colleges. In a meeting convened with the Deans of Medical Colleges on Thursday, the DME said that the Medical Colleges must be prepared for the mega vaccination drive against Covid -19 on September 12 and to vaccinate the by-standers of patients as well as Medical college mess workers and other staff.

The office of the DME in a statement said that the Deans have been directed to have special focus on the elderly population as well as the vulnerable people.

The directive is given also to prioritise the vaccinating population with a special focus on elderly. The DME directed the deans to form three or four teams and can have both fixed vaccination camps as well as mobile vaccine camps.

The DME in the statement said that these teams can work in association with Greater Chennai Corporation in the Capital city while in other districts they will work with Joint directors and deputy directors of health services.

The statement called upon the fixed and mobile teams to scout for people at homes, malls and apartments and the priority should be given to the elderly as well as the vulnerable people.

It may be noted that Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a mega vaccination camp with 10,000 camps across the state against Covid -19 on September 12. The state health minister Ma Subramanian has approached the Central government for a special additional allotment of 1 crore doses of vaccine to be used during the mega vaccination camps.
