State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre to investigate cybercrimes across the state

The State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre that is coming up in Chennai will be the nodal agency to investigate all the cyber crimes across the state of Tamil Nadu.  The cyber centre which was announced by the Chief Minister, M.K.Stalin on the floor of the legislative assembly on Monday will help the police in cracking all crimes related to the internet, Police sources said.

It may be noted that Tamil Nadu has reported several Cybercrimes leading to suicide after blackmailing and heavy financial losses to several people through Cybercrimes. The state police is expecting to bring down the volume of Cybercrimes in the state by extensively implementing the programme.

A senior police officer who is likely to head the unit while speaking to BPNS said that this centre would be in charge of all the internet related crimes in the state. He said that this centre would investigate crimes against women and children and would also create awareness of them.

The officer said that four cyber crime police stations will be set up in Chennai as part of the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre and police personal who are experts in cyber crimes will be posted on redeployment at these four police stations.

In a related development, a mobile drone police unit will also be set up to monitor the crowded areas and traffic in the city at a cost of Rs 3.6 crore rupees.

Students in Responsible Police Initiatives (SIRPI) will also closely interact with the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit. It may be noted that the SIRPI was announced by the Chief Minister to be constituted at a cost of Rs 4.25 crore and would be implemented in 100 Chennai schools.

Police will also, provide training to over 1.20 lakh police personal at Anna institute of Management to improve their interpersonal skills.

The extensive CCTV Network in the city will be looked after by a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
