Madras Christian College student stabbed to death by former boyfriend

Chennai, Sept 23 (BPNS)

A twenty-year-old student, Swetha who was a diploma student for Medical lab technology at the Madras Christian College continuing education department, was stabbed to death by her former boyfriend. The incident occurred on Thursday outside the Tambaram Railway station in Chennai.

The assailant, Ramachandran who was an employee in a private company is admitted to hospital after he slit his wrist.

Police said that Swetha and Ramachandran were known to each other for the past two years and of late she had distanced herself from him.

Ramachandran intercepted Swetha while she was walking to the railway station to board a train along with her friends. He asked her as to why she was sidelining him and initially cut his wrist and then stabbed Swetha six times. She laid in a pool of blood and was taken immediately to the nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Passersby caught hold of the assailant and handed him over to the police. Ramachandran, according to Tambaram police is recuperating at a local hospital.

Dr. Praveen Krishnan, psychologist at a prominent hospital at Madurai while speaking to BPNS said, “The cases of jilted lovers taking the lives of innocent girls are increasing by the day. Mainly it is due to the male ego that haunts the person when he finds that his lover has avoided him or rather sidelined him and was about to start a new life. This is due to his own insecure feeling and proper awareness on human relationships have to be conducted and made them aware that the world does not end with a love failure.”
