An Indian Air Force( IAF) officer was arrested on Sunday following charges of rape leveled by his colleague. He was arrested by the Coimbatore City police.
Flight Lieutenant Amitesh (29) who was at the IAF campus near Racecourse, Coimbatore for a training programme was arrested based on a complaint filed by his woman colleague.
Police said that the woman had given a petition to the All Woman Police station at Coimbatore .She complained that she was raped by Amitesh who had reached the IAF station at Coimbatore.
The woman officer had reportedly filed a complaint with the IAF authorities two weeks ago but no action was taken.
The woman IAF officer got injured while playing a game on September 10 and had taken medication and went for sleep and when she woke up she was allegedly being sexually abused.
Coimbatore City police arrested Amitesh on Sunday early morning and charged him under Section 376 (Punishment for Rape) of the Indian Penal Code. He was remanded to judicial custody at Udumalpet jail.
The Lawyer of Amitesh has argued that the Coimbatore police does not have any authority to conduct an investigation against the IAF officer and called for a trial at a defense court.
