TN health department prepares for vaccinating 15-18 age group

The Tamil Nadu health department has commenced preparations to vaccinate youngsters in the age group of 15-18 years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that the vaccination in this age group would start from January 3rd, 2022.

The state health minister, Ma Subramanian while speaking to reporters at Chennai after inspecting the vaccination camps at the 16th mega vaccine camp said that the vaccination for those in the age group of 15-18 would commence from January 3rd.

Minister said that the jab would be administered to children in schools and also in special camps to be held by the health department. Referring to the booster dose for medical professionals to be commenced from January 10th, the health minister said that there were 1.40 crore medical professionals in the state requiring a booster dose.

The health minister also said that the state health department had vaccinated 8.14 crore people in the state. He said that 84.87% of the state has received the first dose of the vaccine and 55.85% received the second dose of the vaccine. He also said that at the national level 88. 59% have received the first dose of the vaccine.

Ma Subramanian also requested people of the state to adhere to Covid -19 standard protocol and said that instead of being fined by the government authorities for not wearing masks and not adhering to Covid -19 protocol it was better for the people to do it on their own.

He also said that 100 people who had come in contact with the 22 Omicron cases in the state have developed symptoms of Omicron. However, he said that all of them were in isolation and were recovering considerably well.

Earlier in the day the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K.Stalin inspected the wards set up to treat patients with Omicron variant at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
