Stalin announces Rs 3 lakh solatium to the families of the victims of firecracker unit blast

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to the families of the five people who were killed in a firecracker unit blast at Watrap in  Virudhunagar district on January 1, Saturday.

The blast occurred at the firecracker unit when workers had arrived for pooja at 8.30 am to welcome New Year.

Chief Minister in a statement said that a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to the families of each of the deceased would be granted from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. An amount of Rs 1 lakh will be announced to those injured in the blasts. Five people lost their lives while ten persons were injured in the accident.

Nathampatti police in Virudhunagar district has already registered a case against the firecracker units owner Murugan under Sections 286 (Negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance),337 (negligent act endangering human life), 304(A)( causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and also under the Indian Explosive Substance Act.

Police said that the license of the firecracker unit was suspended following the accident.
