The Pudukottai police in Tamil Nadu has altered the case registered against the CISF personal over the hitting of a stray bullet on an 11-year-old boy, Pugazhendhi, on December 30th at Narthamalai in Pudukottai district.
The boy who was on a visit to the house of his grandparents was hit on his head by a bullet that was fired accidentally from the CISF shooting range and he succumbed to his injuries at Thanjavur Medical College on Monday night.
Pudukottai Police Superintendent Nisha Parthiban informed media persons that the police had now altered the case under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code( IPC) which is causing death by negligence.
The Keeranur police had earlier booked a case after the boy was hit by a stray bullet on his head and suffered grievous injuries under IPS sections 286 ( negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
Police said that summons have been issued to CISF personal to hand over their weapons to ascertain as to from which type of weapon the bullet had been fired.
The Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Pudukottai, M.S. Dhandayuthapani who had conducted a parallel investigation into the incident submitted a report on his conclusions to the Pudukottai district collector.
The RDO had conducted enquiries with the CISF officers, State police officers, the general public, parents of the 11-year-old boy, and some revenue officials.
Official sources told IANS that the RDO had inspected the shooting range as well as the residence of the 11-year-old boy from where he was hit by the stray bullet from the shooting range. It is to be noted that the shooting range is 2 km away from the residence from where the boy was hit by the bullet.
Meanwhile, a group of villagers blocked the road at Narthamalai in Pudukottai district on Monday night after the demise of the boy had come and called up for immediate police intervention and to take action against those responsible for the death of the child.
