Rape:Coimbatore Mahila court sentence 20 years RI to two youths

The Coimbatore district Mahila court has sanctioned two youths for 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping the younger sister of a friend in Pollachin during 2016. The district court pronounced the verdict on Thursday.

R. Vimal (38) and B. Karthi (38), both autorickshaw drivers were sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the charge of raping their friend’s younger sister. The rape survivor was married to an autorickshaw driver and was a construction worker. The couple had a child and after a quarrel at home, she had come to her family home in Pollachi, and her elder brother brought in the duo, Vimal and Karthi to settle the dispute.

The two in the pretext of taking her to her husband’s place for solving the issue took her to an isolated place and repeatedly raped her after beating her with a belt. She was dumped at another place and she walked to a nearby hospital and took treatment and informed the hospital authorities of the incident.

Police arrested the duo under Sections 323 ( punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 ( voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous means of weapons), 376( D) ( gang rape), and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested them.

Justice R. Nandhinidevi of the Coimbatore district Mahila court sentenced the two to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for rape and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on each of them.

Public prosecutor Jisha appeared for the rape survivor.
