TN assembly to conclude on Friday considering pandemic situation

The Tamil Nadu legislative assembly which commenced session on Wednesday with the customary address of the state Governor will conclude on Friday.  The period of the session is cut short for three days due to the rising Covid -19 cases in the state.

Assembly Speaker, M. Appavu on Wednesday called a meeting of all political parties and the representatives who attended the meeting were unanimous to cut short the assembly proceedings by Friday following the third wave and the rising Covid -19 cases.

 On Thursday an obituary reference will be made to departed leaders, former legislators and eminent personalities who passed away. A supplementary budget for 2021-22 will be presented on Friday .Chief Minister will give a motion of thanks to the Governor’s address on Friday.

Meanwhile, for the first time in its history, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) telecasted the Governor’s address on Wednesday live through web streaming. The Tamil Nadu assembly is in the process of live telecasting its proceedings and this session is considered as a trial session for live streaming the assembly. DD Podhigai, the Tamil regional news service of Doordarshan had also live telecasted the Governor’s address apart from the DIPR web streaming it live.

 The DIPR officials have already visited Parliament and several legislative assemblies including Kerala and Maharashtra where the proceedings are live telecasted to have first-hand information on the live telecast of proceedings.

The visuals of question hour on January 6th and January 7th will be live telecasted as also the Chief Minister’s reply to the Governor’s address on Friday. DD Podhigai will also live telecast the proceedings.
