Chennai, Feb 23 (BPNS)

BJP woman leader, Uma Anandhan who had courted controversy over supporting  Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi has won the Urban polls from ward 134 in West Mambalam constituency of Greater Chennai Corporation. She won the seat by a margin of 2,036 votes.

Uma had courted controversy during an interview in a Tamil YouTube channel last year in which she said that she was proud of Nathuram Vinayak Godse as a Hindu and that she doesn’t have any regrets for having supported him. She also said,” In fact, he killed the Mahatma quite late.”

After Uma won the elections, social media was viral with her old interview about Godse and when media persons asked her about it, she refrained from speaking and was protected by the party cadres.

Uma after winning the elections promised the people that she will be with the public and would bring out a solution to the flood in the West Mambalam area, her constituency. She said that the floods have led to displacement of several senior citizens from the flats they were living in the constituency and many have locked the flats and left.

She said, “ During the election campaign I have told about the problems faced by the people of the ward and during rains, water enters the homes. My first priority will be to solve this problem of water entering houses during heavy rains mixed with sewage water  leading to other health hazards also.”

The new councilor said that she will be having a transparent process as a councilor and will interact with the people of the ward for their development needs.
