In a bizarre incident of opposition to daughter’s love affair turning violent, a farmer in Tenkasi hacked his 20-year-old daughter with a sickle injuring her critically. The incident occurred on Monday in Ariyankavu near Pavoorchatram in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu.
The woman identified as V. Sudha is admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TvMCH) with injuries and her condition is slated to be critical.
Pavoorchathram police officials said that Sudha was a graduate and was working as a beedi roller for her livelihood. She fell in love with youth in her village and expressed her desire to marry him to her father. Her father, Velsamy opposed the relationship vehemently and Sudha decided to take the matter to the Police station in a fit of rage Velsamy hacked her with a sickle that he was carrying to his agricultural land.
On hearing her screams, Sudha’s neighbours rushed to the spot and took her to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. The police have registered a case and an investigation is being carried out.
