Kerala to receive heavy rains for next four days

Kerala is to receive heavy rains in the next four days from Sunday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow alert for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on Sunday. These districts are to receive heavy to isolated rains for the next few days . The IMD has also issued a warning alert ban for fishing till August 3rd.

Weathermen issued an Orange alert for Kottayam and Idukki districts on Monday. All other districts in the state are expected to get heavy to very heavy rains.

IMD has also alerted heavy to very heavy rains in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur districts on Tuesday.

Even as there were heavy rains in the state in July there is a net 26% deficit since the Southwest monsoon has been weak for the month of June.

Since 2018 rains have been less in the months of June and July but rains lashed the state in the month of August.

While there was rain deficit in Kerala, the dams have more than 60% storage and the dams are expected to be full when the Southwest monsoon withdraws by September 30 th.
