Chennai, Sept 22 (BPNS)

Deposed leader of the AIADMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday requested him to intervene and secure the release of Indians held captivity in a remote village in Myanmar.

The former Chief Minister in the letter to Prime Minister informed that 300 Indians were taken to Thailand promising them jobs in the software industry but were taken to a remote place in Myanmar and held, as hostages. He said that of the 300 Indians who are held in captivity, 60 are from Tamil Nadu.

He said that the arrested Indians are being inflicted with electric shocks in their private parts if they refuse to do illegal software jobs.

OPS said that the family members of the Indians who are abducted are in constant fear and called upon the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter and to secure the release of the Indians.

The former Chief Minister in letter said, “ I would be grateful if you could kindly intervene in the matter personally and take this up at the highest level in Myanmar to secure the safety and security of Indians and arrange for their safe return back to India.”

It is to be noted that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has already written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting the release of the abducted Indians from Myanmar.

300 Indians were recruited for skilled software jobs in Thailand but when they landed in Thailand, they were abducted by a group who took them to a remote area of Myanmar.  Some of the Indians who are under captivity have sent across some videos which depict the poor condition in which these families are.
