Villupuram tense after Anna statue found desecrated

Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu is tense after hundreds of DMK workers shouted slogans and conducted protest marches in the city after a statue of DMK founder leader and former Chief Minister, C.N. Annadurai was found desecrated on Monday morning.

A full size statue of C.N. Annadurai erected at Kandamangalam on the Villupuram- Puducherry national highway and on Monday morning local people found that the statue of C.N. Annadurai was desecrated.

The statue was found garlanded with slippers and its face covered with DMKs party flag. The face was covered with the DMK flag.  A photo of former Union Minister and DMK leader A. Raja was fixed on the statue. It may be noted that Raja is controversial over his statement against Hindu dharma

Police have commenced an investigation but with no buildings in the near vicinity, no CCTV visuals are available.  Police have commenced investigation and have questioned a few people.

Sources in Villupuram area told BPNS that the situation is not under proper control but a heavy police contingent is camping in the area.
