Police personnel suspended for stealing mangoes in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, October 5 (BPNS)

In a major embarrassment to the state police force, one of its personnel was caught on CCTV camera stealing mangoes from a fruit stall. The personnel, identified as PS Shihab, a civil police officer at AR Camp, Idukki, had stolen 10kg mangoes from a fruit stall at Kanjirapally, while he was returning from duty in the wee hours. Upon identification, Shihab was placed under suspension. At the same time, Kanjirapally Police said that Shihab is absconding.

“The shop owner had filed a complaint regarding the theft. A case was registered and CCTV camera visuals were checked. It was then that the stealing was found to be caught on camera. Though the face of the culprit was not visible, an inquiry surrounding the vehicle registration number helped to zero in on Shihab,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that Shihab is an accused in an alleged rape case and is also facing charges of threatening the victim. In these cases, he is currently facing a trial.
