Thiruvananthapuram, October 13 (BPNS)

A Congress MLA in the state has been charged with rape. Perumbavoor MLA Eldose Kunnapillil is facing a rape charge and an imminent arrest. The MLA is now absconding and has filed an anticipatory bail plea before the Thiruvananthapuram additional sessions court, which will be considered on October 15.

It was on September 28 that a woman, who is a teacher and a resident of Petta in Thiruvananthapuram, came out with the allegation that the MLA had beaten her. Then the woman in her statement to the district magistrate alleged that the MLA had sexually assaulted her. The case is now being investigated by the District Crime Branch.

“An FIR has been registered. The woman will be subjected to medical examination,” said a police official.

At the same time, Eldose from a hideout posted on his Facebook account that he had done nothing unlawful. He also added that only God is with him.

“I will listen to my voters at Perumbavoor. There is no gender for criminals. Power is not my last resort. I am not a fraud. Like to extend my gratitude to those supporting me and those who withdrew their support,” said the post.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said that it will be premature to allege that the sexual harassment case against Eldose is a politically motivated one. He also added that an explanation has been sought from him.

“I don’t know if he has gone into hiding. In normal circumstances, there is no need for the same if an anticipatory bail plea is given. Other details emerging concerning the case will also be examined,” said Satheesan.
