Heavy rains in TN, many areas of Chennai inundated

Chennai and many districts of Tamil Nadu are having heavy rains with several parts of the capital city inundated in water. Chennai city is witnessing heavy traffic jams as water inundation in parts of the city has led to traffic congestion. It may be noted that the Northeast monsoon hit Tamil Nadu on October 29th as per the prediction of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts have been given holidays due to the heavy rains.

CCTV cameras for monitoring floods have been installed in many parts of Chennai city. Barricades have been put up in many parts of Chennai city as Metro work is being carried out.

Weathermen have predicted heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry till November 4.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has called an urgent meeting of top officials of the state at the secretariat. Sources in the government told BPNS that the state is gearing up for any eventuality if the rains continue for the next day. The State Disaster Response Force team has been kept in reserve while the police and fire force are also on standby to face any issues leading to heavy rains.
