Chennai, Nov 20 (BPNS)

The Tamil Nadu police have taken into custody a native of Udhagamandalam in Nilgiris district over his connection with Mohammed Sharik who is grievously injured in the explosion in an autorickshaw on Saturday.  Police are questioning Surendran from Udhagamandalam and according to information available from police sources he has admitted of knowing Sharik. Sources told BPNS that Sharik had procured the SIM card of his phone using the Aadhar records of Sharik.

Mohammed Sharik is an IS module and was charged with Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and was missing since September 2022. The family of Sharik has identified him through his photograph and will be reaching Mangaluru.

Police have also confirmed  BPNS that Sharik had procured the SIM card of his phone using the Aadhar records of Surendran.  Sources said that according to Call Data Records(CDR) of Sharik, he had called some numbers in Tamil Nadu.

It may be noted that the NIA has conducted several raids across Tamil Nadu after a car exploded on Deepavali eve on October 23rd in which a 29-year-old youth Jameesha Mubin was charred to death. Six people are in judicial custody under UAPA charges which include the nephew of S.A. Basha, the Islamist terror operative involved in the serial blasts of February 14, 1998, in which 56 people lost their lives and 200 were grievously injured.

However Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, C. Sylendra Babu told media persons that no records are available at the moment regarding any connection between Mohammed Sharik and Jameesha Mubin.

However, Tamil Nadu police and sources in the Central agencies refused to divulge the details regarding investigation in Tamil Nadu in the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast.
