In a gruesome act over a property dispute, a 55-year-old man hacked his octogenarian mother to death. The incident occurred in Maduravoyal, Chennai on Sunday.
The deceased Saroja had four daughters and the accused Kabali is her only son. According to the police, Kabali and Saroja were living in separate houses but in the same neighbourhood.
Kabali was unemployed after his return from the middle east and was allegedly having two wives. Saroja, according to the police had divided her property and shared it equally among her children and was living alone in her house.
Her son was eyeing the property which was in her name and asked her to register it in his name which she had refused flatly. This infuriated Kabali and he had attacked the old woman twice earlier and was warned by his sisters against this.
However, according to the police, Kabali visited his mother and had a heated argument over the sharing of property. In a spit of rage, police said, he slit the throat of his mother before stabbing her. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and took the profusely bleeding woman to the government general hospital but the hospital authorities declared her as brought dead.
Kabali was produced before a judicial magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.
