Kallakurichi schools in TN reopen for physical classes

The Sakthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and the Sakthi ECR international school at Kallakurichi reopened for physical classes on Monday after 145 days of shutting down.  The school and its premises had witnessed violent scenes after the death of a Class XII student of the school.

The Sakthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and the Sakthi ECR international school at Kallakurichi reopened for physical classes on Monday after 145 days of shutting down.  The school and its premises had witnessed violent scenes after the death of a Class XII student of the school. A violent mob had vandalized the school including torching school buses and ransacking the school and its premises on July 17 th after the death of the girl student on July 13.

The Madras High Court had granted permission for the resumption of physical classes in the school for classes 9 to 12 students.

A joint inspection committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government had conducted a detailed inspection on the school and its premises and gave the green signal for reopening the school.

The district administration had given permission for the school to reopen classes on the ground floor, first floor and second floors of Block A while the third floor is not given permission to conduct classes. In Block B, permission is not granted even though the Block is ready for resumption of classes. Blocks C and D are still unfit for functioning and repair works are being carried out.

The district collector of Kallakurichi told media persons that security arrangements have been put in place as the schools were reopening on Monday.
