Five people were injured in a fire mishap at the Neyveli Thermal Power station on Thursday. The fire mishap took place at the Unit II of Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (2x500MW) in Neyveli of Cuddalore district. Sources in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation told BPNS that the cause of the mishap is yet to be known and that the technical team of the NLC was looking for the reason behind the fire accident.
The accident, according to some workers of the company occurred at 11.30 am on Thursday during the lignite burning process at Unit II. The workers, N. Suresh, K. Suresh, S. Thirunavukarasu, D. Senthil Kumar who are working for the Industrial Cooperative Service Society attached to the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, and the employee, R. Dakshinamoorthy got injured when a fire blow-up occurred at the auxiliary lines of a boiler.
The five sustained burn injuries and the condition of S. Tirunavukarasu who suffered 80% burns is critical. Others have suffered 30-40% burn injuries and are admitted to a private hospital in Cuddalore.
It may be recalled that the fire mishap at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation is the third in the past two and half years.
