AIADMK interim general secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) have criticized the DMK government for not including sugarcane in the Pongal gift items to ration card holders.
EPS said that the government must provide sugarcane to each of the card holders and charged that the DMK while in opposition had demanded Rs 5000 to be paid to each ration card holder during Pongal festival. He asked the DMK to fulfill the demand of the ration card holders.
In a statement on Friday, the AIADMK leader said that there are reports of the sugarcane farmers resorting to agitations in several areas of the state.
The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader, TTV Dhinakaran in a series of tweets came out against the Tamil Nadu government and said that the government had let down the sugarcane farmers of the state.
He said that the sugarcane farmers had raised the crop expecting the state government to procure the produce during the Pongal festival.
The AMMK leader also lashed out against the government for putting the sugarcane farmers in the lurch by not including the product in the Pongal gift.
