The first National Women Theater festival organized by the Nireeksha Women theatre group was inaugurated at the Vylopillil Samskriti Bhavan on Friday.
State transport minister, Antony Raju flagged off the theatre festival at Manaveeyam lane, Thiruvananthapuram at 9.30 am. A street play,’ Theekadal’ and a Kalaripayattu exhibition by girls of the MMC Kalari group were also held.
A seminar, on the subject, ‘Challenges faced by women in arts and culture’, was held at Pattom, SMC programme centre under the auspicious of the state woman’s commission. The seminar was inaugurated by the State Woman’s Commission Chairperson, Adv. P. Sathidevi and presided over by Rajarajeswari, President of Nireeksha. Writer and actor, Mini. S.K welcomed the gathering. Theatre person and journalist, Jisha Abhinaya and Journalist Saritha Balan presented the papers.
Sreekutty Namitha, Chairperson, Liberty Foundation, Kerala, Asha. P.P. Mahila Samakhya State consultant, Seeta Dasan, State committee member , Seva union participated in the discussion. A vote of thanks was given by Bushra, state resource person.
A theater workshop jointly organized by Nireeksha and Kudumbasree was inaugurated at Vyloppallil Samskriti Bhavan by District Panchayath member, Gita Nazeer. Writer, Journalist and former member of Kerala Public Service Commission, R. Parvathy Devi delivered the keynote address. Gender consultant, Soya Thomas presided in the programme in which Jyothi Vijayakumar and Sindhu Paliyode spoke.
The formal inauguration of the theatre festival was done at Vylopilli Samskriti Bhavan by P. Sathidevi, Chairperson, State Women’s Commission and State Planning Board member, Mini Sukumar delivered the keynote address. Nireeksha president Rajarajeshwari welcomed the gathering.
A play by Sreeja Arangottukara and team,’ Museum of Silence’ was shown. Solo drama’s ‘ Diana’ , conceived and acted by Gayatri Prabha Babu, ‘She’ by Gatha R. Krishnan and ‘Aami’ conceived and directed by Adithya Baby was shown.
