AIADMK deposed leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has demanded the Tamil Nadu government regularise part-time teachers in government schools.
In a statement on Tuesday, the former Chief Minister said that around 12000 teachers are working on a part-time basis in Tamil Nadu government schools and wanted to regularize their service and make them permanent government staff.
These teachers are working part-time as dance, music, drawing, and physical education teachers. It may be noted that the DMK had in its 2021 election manifesto promised to regularize the service of these part-time teachers but even after more than one and half years into power, the DMK did not meet its promise.
OPS in the statement said that even as these teachers were working on a part-time basis, they were discharging all the duties that were being done by regular teachers. The former Chief Minister however said that the part-time teachers were paid a meager Rs 10,000 per month as salary which was quite inadequate.
He said that the DMK government must fulfill its poll promise and to regularise the service of the part-time teachers with immediate effect.
