Tamil Film industry looking upto 2023 after a mixed 2022

The Tamil film industry which had mixed results in the year 2022 is expecting to rise upto a different level in 2023 with successive releases as many top stars and directors are bringing up their movies in 2023.

The  top stars of the Tamil film industry Rajanikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Vikram, Jeyam Ravi, and Dhanush vying with each other for the screen presence in 2023.  The movie, Jailer by Nelson Dilipkumar will have Rajanikanth in the lead title role and is expected to open internationally on April 14. The sequel to Indian 1 casting Kamal Haasan and directed by S. Shankar, Indian 2 will be released in October.

The  Tamil Film industry which had mixed results for 2022 is looking ahead to 2023 with buoyancy and expectations . The two major superstars of the Tamil industry, Vijay and Ajith Kumar are leading in the fights for box office success with their movies.

Vaarisu, the Vijay starrer is scheduled to be released in Pongal week and ‘Thunivu’ of Ajith also will be released at the same time. The producers of ‘Vaarisu’ had to face the ire of the administrators of the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai after fans damaged the seats in the indoor stadium during the release of the movie’s soundtrack release on December 24th.

Ajith starrer, Thunivu is to be released at the same time as Vaarisu of Vijay in the Pongal week and the industry as a whole is expecting the two movies to catapult the Tamil movie industry to higher echelons through good sales. Thunivu had a dream promotion with the first poster of the movie launched from a parachute in Dubai increasing the expectations of the fans and the industry alike.

R. Aroghyasamy, a Tamil movie industry watcher and a movie critic in the local Tamil language while speaking to BPNS said, “ Its indeed a nice and healthy competition between Vijay and Ajith for their new movies Vaarisu and Thunivu respectively and this competition will take the Tamil movie industry to a higher plane- both commercially and as an entertainer.”

Madras Talkies and Lyca productions, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan 1 (PS1) have announced the release of the sequel of the movie, Ponniyin Selvan 2 (PS2) with a star cast of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aiswarya Rai, Trisha, Karthik, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lakshmi and narrating on the Chola kingdom. PS 2, according to its producers will hit the screens across the globe on April 28, 2023, and the industry is of much anticipation for this movie. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is considered as the highest gross collector for a movie directed by veteran director, Maniratnam. The movie has collected more than Rs 500 crores and the makers are expecting PS2 to gain more than the first part.

Interestingly the young superstar of the Tamil industry, Dhanush is coming up with his latest movie,  ‘Vaathi’  directed by Venky Atlluri in February and produced by Sithara Entertainments. The movie has also Samyuktha Menon and Samuthirakani as lead actors. The movie is slated to be released on February 17 and Borrder directed by A. Venkitachalam with a star cast of Arun Vijay and Regina Cassandra to be released on February 24.

Run Baby Run directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar will also be released on February 24th and the movie has an impressive cast of RJ Balaji and Aishwarya Rajesh.

The movie ‘Rudhran’ directed by Kathiresan and produced by Five Star Creations will be released in April middle. The movie has a star cast of Raghava Lawrence and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

With the Tamil movie industry having huge collections in 2022 through movies like Vikram and PS1, the industry is looking for movies like PS2, Jailer, Vaarisu, and Thunivu to take the industry ahead in the days to come with huge collections.
