One dead, five injured as van carrying Sabarimala pilgrims overturns in TN

One person was killed and five others injured when a van carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh overturned at Dindigul In Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

One person was killed and five others injured when a van carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh overturned at Dindigul In Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The deceased Sabarimala pilgrim is identified as Sramalu Nayak (42)

The van overturned when the pilgrims were returning to Andhra Pradesh after visiting the hill shrine in Kerala.  Police said that the van overturned when the driver lost control and fell into a ditch at Vedasandur in the Dindigul district.

The injury of five other pilgrims is critical and admitted to government hospitals at Vedasandur and Dindigul. The Koombur police have commenced an investigation.

It may be noted that in a recent accident at Theni in Tamil Nadu a van carrying Sabarimala pilgrims overturned and fell into a gorge wherein eight pilgrims lost their lives. Two people including a child suffered critical injuries. In this case, also driver lost control of the vehicle leading to the death of eight people and severe injuries to two others.
