Chennai, Jan 17 (BPNS)

The first-time Member of Parliament from Bangalore South Constituency and national president of Yuva Morcha, Tejaswi Surya is under the lens after the Indigo airline released a statement on Tuesday that a passenger had opened the emergency door of its Chennai-  Tiruchirapalli flight on December 10, 2022. While the airlines generally don’t name the passenger who was involved in the incident, in this episode also the airlines stated that such an incident occurred on an Indigo flight ATR 72-600 which was scheduled to depart from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli at 10.05 am but was delayed by two hours.

While the Indigo airline did not name the person, a passenger who was on the same flight confirmed that it was Tejaswi Surya. He said that the MP was seated near the emergency exit and after the cabin crew explained on the emergency exit door, he had pulled it open. This led to the deplaning of all passengers and after two hours of waiting, the flight resumed service.

The passenger said that the BJP Tamil Nadu unit president, K. Annamalai was also on the flight along with Tejaswi Surya.

He said that Tejaswi Surya continued to travel on the flight but he was removed from the seat near the emergency exit.

However, B.T. Arasukumar, a former BJP leader who is presently the Spokesman of the DMK and was on the same flight told BPNS that he had seen both Tejaswi Surya and Annamalai on the flight but did not know whether the MP had opened the emergency exit.

The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has commenced an inquiry into the incident. Officials of the DGCA when contacted by the BPNS refused to speak on the incident.

When contacted, the MP’s office informed BPNS that a statement will be released soon on the issue.
