The Erode East by-election which has been necessitated following the passing away of Congress MLA, E. Thirumahan Everaa is heating up in the days to come with the Congress candidate and former Union minister, EVKS Elangovan to file his nomination on February 3rd.

It is to be noted that EVKS Elangovan is the father of the deceased Congress MLA, E. Thirumahan Everaa. Elangovan has already stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s popularity will be the major factor that help him sail through in the election.

The AIADMK has already announced that the party would be contesting the polls against the DMK front candidate, EVKS Elangovan. The party would be announcing a candidate in a couple of days’ time with the former MLA and party leader, Thenarasu is the front-runner for the seat.

In the 2021 assembly elections, the Congress candidate, Thirumahan Everaa defeated M. Yuvaraj of the Tamil Manila Congress by a margin of 8294 votes.

While there are speculations of the O. Panneerselvam faction contesting the polls from Erode East, the possibility seems slim. One of the founder leaders of AIADMK and presently president of the National Justice Party, Shanmugham has called upon Panneerselvam not to contest the polls. He also told both Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and O. Panneerselvam (OPS) that he would mediate between their dispute and settle dispute at the earliest for the benefit of the party.

With the election on February 27th and the two major fronts taking on each other, for the AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister, Edappadi K. Palaniswami,it will be a prestigious fight. The AIADMK, it may be recalled, is in a bitter power struggle between O. Panneerselvam who is the deposed coordinator of the party, and a former Chief Minister and Edappadi. K Palaniswami (EPS), the present interim general secretary and former Chief Minister.

The by-election results can be considered a pointer to the popularity of the DMK government and an excellent chance for the AIADMK to bounce back to the political realm of Tamil Nadu.
