The Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday said that the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would be lashed with high stormy winds. The weather department has also advised fishermen not to venture into the seas.
The fishermen were warned not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar, Southwest Bay of Bengal, Camorin area off the Sri Lankan coast till February 2nd. The IMD warned that the sea could be rough to very rough and hence the warning.
The IMD in a tweet on Wednesday said, “Depression over Southwest BoB lay centered at 0530 IST over the same region about 160 km east –southeast of Trincomalee and 420 km southeast of Karaikkal”.
The weather department also said that light to moderate rainfall was likely over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on February 1 and 2nd.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a statement said that a stormy wind with a speed of 45- 55kmph gusting to 65kmph would be seen on February 1 and on February 2, a squally wind with a speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60kmph will be seen.
The IMD also said that isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu on February 1 and 2nd.
