The AIADMK deposed leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has announced his faction’s candidate for the Erode East by-election. Senthilmurugan will be the party candidate for the Erode East seat from the OPS faction.
It is to be noted that OPS was expelled from the AIADMK during the last general council of the party in July 2022.
The EPS faction of the AIADMK has announced, veteran leader and former MLA, K.S. Thennarasu as the party candidate.
The Erode East by-election has been necessitated following the passing away of the sitting legislature, E. Thirumahan Everaa of the Congress party. The DMK front has announced senior Congress leader, EVKS Elangovan, father of late Thirumahan Everaa as its candidate for the by-election.
In the 2021 assembly elections, Congress candidate Thirumahan Everaa won the seat by a margin of 8924 votes against the AIADMK front candidate, M. Yuvaraj of TMC. With both factions of the AIADMK fielding candidates, the election seems to be moving easily in favour of Congress leader, EVKS Elangovan.
