Padma Bhushan Vani Jayaram passed away at her residence in Chennai . She was 78 years of age. The cause of her death is not known.
One of the major voices in the South Indian film industry, Vani Jayaram has rendered songs in more than 19 languages.
She was living at Haddows road in Chennai. Her husband Jayaram predeceased her in 2018. Since the passing away of her husband she was staying alone at her residence.
Vani Jayaram has won 3 national awards and has sung more than 10000 songs in 19 languages. She had sung playback songs in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Gujarati, Odiya, Marathi, Haryanvi, Assamese, Tulu, and Bengali languages. She had won state government awards from Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.
