The Tamil Nadu police have commenced investigation over an Iridium scam in which some people were luring the public that if Rs 5 lakh is invested in Iridium project they would get returns up to Rs 3 crore in a period of two years.

The Director General of Tamil Nadu police, C. Sylendrababu has appealed to the public in a video that this was a scam and that people should not invest money in this project.

Sources in the Tamil Nadu police told BPNS that in several parts of Tamil Nadu, especially in Kanniyakumari, Nagercoil and Coimbatore areas of Tamil Nadu people were being cheated in the Iridium scam and that police have commenced investigation to nab the kingpins behind such a proposal.

It is to be recalled that many people have lost their lives in scams like Iriidum, rice puller, and Nagamanickyam in Tamil Nadu. Many people from neighbouring Kerala and Karnataka are brought to Tamil Nadu with touts convincing them that Iridium worth hundreds of crores were with them and that it was in deep forest areas. Just to have a glimpse of Iridium, lakhs of rupees are charged and once the person is hoodwinked, he is taken to deep forests and then beaten black and blue and some die in the attacks.

Police have been regularly warning people against such scams and the video of the DGP is intended to make people aware of the Iridium scam.
