Cops in TN commissionerate for bicycle patrolling, 100 bicycles distributed

Police officials in Avadi commissionerate near Chennai will henceforth be using bicycles as a mode of patrolling.

Chennai, Feb 8 (BPNS)

Police officials in Avadi commissionerate near Chennai will henceforth be using bicycles as a mode of patrolling. This makes cops more friendly with the local people and to get feedback from the ground on what was happening in the neighbourhood.

The Avadi Commissioner Sandip Roy Rathore told BPNS that the bicycle patrolling was part of the exercise to show the presence of police officials in remote and less covered areas in commissionerate.

He said that with this the police were planning to collaborate with the residents and interact with them to know about their needs.

As a first step the commissionerate has distributed 100 bicycles to the 25 police stations under its jurisdiction.

The cops will sit with the residents and understand their issues and try to sort them out.

However, sources in the police told BPNS that bicycle patrolling is for gathering grass root intelligence and that the information would be taken after befriending youngsters.

The Avadi commissioner said that if the bicycle patrolling turns out a success, police would extend this to other commissionerates as well including the Chennai corporation.
