The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths are conducting raids at 60 places in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala in residences and other establishments of suspected sympathisers of Islamic State (IS).
Sources in the agency told BPNS that the raids are carried out as a follow up of the investigation related to the Deepavali eve car bomb blast at Ukkadam near Coimbatore. It may be recalled that in car bomb blast that took place near Ukkadam on October 23, 2022 a 29 year old youth Jameesha Mubin was charred to death.
The Mangalore autorickshaw blast that took place on November 19, 2002 in which a 23 year old youth Mohammed Sharik was injured was also probed. Police and central agencies have found that Sharik was also in Tamil Nadu and Kerala before the blast and the NIA is conducting searches across many places in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The raids commenced early morning on Wednesday and is continuing with team of officers conducting the raids at 35 places in Tamil Nadu and 5 places in Kerala and 20 places in Karnataka.
