Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 17, (BPNS)

In Kerala, a youngster’s driving license got revoked for life after it was found that his rash driving caused a woman’s death in an accident that happened on November 17, 2022 at Vadakkekotta in Ernakulam.

It was the driving license of KN Vishnu, a resident of Kanjiramattam, which got revoked by Thrippunithura Joint RTO.

It was found that Vishnu who was riding a motorbike had overtaken the woman, who was riding a gearless motorcycle, from the left and carelessly took a right turn. In the impact, the woman was hit by the bike. She lost her balance and subsequently fell under the wheels of a private bus and died on the spot.

The deceased woman was Kavya, a resident of Udayamperur. She was on her way to Ernakulam. She was an employee of a private firm.

According to the Joint RTO, in the state revoking the driving license for life is a rare instance.

“In the case of Vishnu, if he is allowed to drive he will be a threat to other road users. That instance was a clear case of reckless driving. This will give a strong message to motorists who think that driving on public streets and highways is a right rather than a privilege,” said an official.

In the state, the Motor Vehicles Department usually suspends a driving license for offenses including rash driving.

In the Vadakkekotta incident, the driving license of the private bus driver got suspended for six months as it was found that he didn’t maintain the required distance from the vehicle in front of him.
