The Chinnalapatti police in, the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu have booked a woman school teacher under Sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The development comes after two girl students studying in Class IXth of a government-aided school in Chinnalapatti in the Dindigul district had attempted suicide on Wednesday by drinking a toilet cleaner.
The two girl students were admitted to Dindigul government medical college after their condition turned critical but doctors said that they are now out of danger.
The relatives of the girl students protested in front of the Chinnalapatti police station and the Dindigul superintendent of Police,V. Bhaskaran reached the spot and held talks with the protestors. However, the relatives of the two girls said that the girls had taken the extreme step of drinking toilet cleaner to take their lives after they were insulted by a teacher in the school. The relatives said that the girls had complained to them that the teacher, Premalatha was regularly using caste slurs against them.
Superintendent of Police, Dindigul, V. Bhaskaran assured the protestors that stringent action would be taken against the teacher.
Sources in the police told BPNS that the woman is presently absconding but that the police would arrest her soon.
