Senior leader of the DMK and former Minister of Tamil Nadu, SNM Ubayidullah passed away in Thanjavur on Sunday. The veteran leader was 83.
He was about to go out for a function from home, when he complained of uneasiness and fainted. Before reaching hospital, the senior leader died on the way.
The former minister was a four-time MLA from Thanjavur for DMK winning the seat in the 1989, 1996, 2001, and 2006 assembly elections. He was a minister for Commercial taxes in the Karunanidhi ministry of 2006.
He was the secretary of DMK Thanjavur Town unit from 1987-2014 and was a powerful leader in Thanjavur. He was also the president of the DMK traders wing.
The Tamil Nadu government had recently conferred the prestigious, Periagnar Anna Award for his contribution to the Tamil Language, literature, and social development.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin condoled the passing away of SNM Ubaydullah and in a tweet recalled Ubaydullah’s contribution in the growth of the party and his association with the senior leaders of the party from the combined Thanjavur district.
