Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 21, (BPNS)

The Kerala Police will soon conduct surprise checks at bus stations in the state using drug testing kits. The decision follows after the finding that bus drivers used to operate the buses after taking drugs. According to higher officials, once these checks come into effect the drivers found to be using drugs could be identified and their driving licenses will be suspended on the spot.

A high-level meeting convened by the State Police Chief also decided to intensify the intervention against the drug mafia.

“While analyzing the performance of district units in the past six months, considerable improvement is there in the registration of drug cases and confiscation of drugs. This will be strengthened more,” reads an excerpt from a statement provided by the State Police Headquarters.

The meeting also decided to prepare an action plan to deal with cyber crimes. For the same, it is learned that the Telangana model will be examined.

“The Telangana Police had implemented some best practices in dealing with cyber crimes. One such is the Telangana Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (T4C). They also operate a 24X7 call center for attending cyber fraud grievances. Such initiatives could be replicated here,” said an official.

The other decisions of the high-level meeting include identifying and taking strict action against those officials who maintain a connection with anti-social elements, setting up CCTV cameras with the help of commercial establishments and resident associations, strengthening the functioning of the emergency response support system, and others.
