Two die in separate incidents of wild elephant attacks in TN

n two separate incidents of wild elephant attacks two men were killed.  Mahesh Kumar (38) was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the early hours of Thursday in an agricultural field at Mangarai in Thadagam valley of Coimbatore district.

In two separate incidents of wild elephant attacks two men were killed.  Mahesh Kumar (38) was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the early hours of Thursday in an agricultural field at Mangarai in Thadagam valley of Coimbatore district.

The deceased reached the agricultural field along with a friend during early morning hours as part of his work. However he did not see the presence of the elephant which , according to police trampled him to death. His accomplice escaped from the scene.

In another incident a 67 year old man, M. Maruthachalam died in an elephant attack near Aanaikatti in Coimbatore district. Forest officials said that he was from Kalkadu village near Aanaikatti and his dead body was found 1500 metres away from the Aanaikatti South reserve forest.

According to forest department officials, there were three elephants in the area and it is not clear whether any single elephant had attacked Maruthachalam or all three had attacked him. His brutally mauled body was taken to Coimbatore district hospital for postmortem.

Forest department officials told media persons that Maruthachalam had gone to the forest area to relieve himself during early morning.
