Tamil Nadu BJP state president,K. Annamalai met the family of the soldier, M. Prabhu who was allegedly beaten to death by a DMK councilor and his accomplices on February 16, 2023.
The BJP president met the close relatives of Prabhu and handed them a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as a solace to the family.
The BJP president later told media persons the Chief Minister must take steps to protect the family and provide an amount of Rs 5 crore as compensation. The deceased soldier is survived by his wife and two children.
The 29 year soldier M. Prabhu and his elder brother, M. Prabhakaran were beaten up by a group of people led by the DMK councilor, Chinnasami and his accomplices.
The provocation that led to the beating and subsequent killing was regarding washing of clothes near a public tap.
Prabhu’s elder brother Prabhakaran who was also injured in the beating had said that Chinnasami deliberately attacked Prabhu and had even challenged that even if he killed the soldier, nothing will affect him.
However Chinnasami was arrested and in judicial custody as the issue snowballed into a major controversy in Tamil Nadu with the opposition BJP and AIADMK taking up the matter.
Annamalai while speaking to reporters also said that the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) will continue and will not be canceled and added that children have accepted the NEET. He also sarcastically said that no matter who meets whom, NEET will not be canceled. He was referring to the recent statement of Tamil Nadu Sports and Youth Minister, Udayanidhi Stalin that he had met the Prime Minister and spoken to him about the cancellation of NEET.
