The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kerala will conduct protest marches across state after a senior Cardiologist in a private hospital was assaulted by the bystanders of a patient. The IMA demanded immediate arrest of six people from Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode. The incident occurred on Saturday night.
The senior Cardiologist, Dr. Asokan told BPNS that he was assaulted by a group of people who claimed to be the relatives of a patient. A new born baby died in the hospital a week ago and the relatives of the mother were protesting over delay in post natal care.
Dr. Asokan is the husband of Dr. Anitha who treated the patient and this provoked the family of the woman who turned violent and the glass shield of a counter at the hospital was destroyed.
Police said that a case has been registered and the perpetrators of the crime will be arrested soon.
The IMA said that they will conduct protests across Kerala and that there were increasing incidences of violence against Doctors in Kerala. State president of IMA, Dr. Sulphi while speaking to media persons said that the police must immediately arrest those who were involved in the attack on Dr. Asokan and called upon the police to bring all those behind the attack before the law of the land.
