Chennai, Mar 9 (BPNS)
With the BJP state president K. Annamalai coming out against the AIADMK for inducting former state level functionaries of the saffron party and the AIADMK leadership responding the relationship between the two alliance partners are at a low ebb.
The BJP national leadership however wants a truce as it knows clearly that without the backing of the AIADMK the party will be a big zero in Tamil Nadu not overlooking the super victories of Pon Radhakrishnan and C.P. Radhakrishnan in loksabha elections in a BJP ticket without alliance.
The latest issue between the AIADMK and BJP cropped up after BJP IT cell state president, CTR Nirmal Kumar resigning the party and joining the AIADMK in the presence of former Chief Minister and AIADMK interim general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami(EPS). The very next day BJP IT cell state secretary Dilip Kannan also quit the BJP and after a day joined the AIADMK again in presence of EPS. Both the leaders lashed out against Annamalai and said that his dictatorial line of functioning would not help the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
The BJP state president did not lie down and in a tweeter post subtly threatened the AIADMK that he would also poach from AIADMK ranks. The AIADMK leader, D. Jayakumar came out strongly against Annamalai.
The BJP national leadership does not want such a flare-up in the relationship between the two parties as it knows clearly that the BJP can get gains only if it piggy rides the AIADMK.
Sources in the BJP told BPNS that the BJP National president and the party senior office bearers including Tamil Nadu in charge and national general secretary, CT Ravi will be communicating to Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) directly. The party leaders have conducted privately commissioned surveys and found that without the support of the AIADMK ,the BJP cannot even win a single seat in the state .
While Annamalai has lashed out against the AIADMK leadership, the national leadership of the party does not subscribe to it as it knows for sure that without the backing of a powerful Dravidan entity, the BJP will not be a force to reckon with in Tamil Nadu. The DMK, Congress alliance will gain maximum seats from Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already told the cadres that all the 40 seats in offing in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry must be won in the 2024 polls.
The BJP was expecting to better the chances of its alliance from the present 1 seat of Theni won by the son of OPS, O.P. Ravindranathan. However the recent rift between the AIADMK and BJP has not gone down well with the national leadership which was desperately trying to gain maximum seats from the South of India. Except from Karnataka, the party does not have many expectations and hence the national leadership does not want the situation in Tamil Nadu to be fanned up further.
Sources in the BJP told BPNS that the national leadership has already communicated to Annamalai to keep his calm and has also spoken to the AIADMK interim general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami. If need be J.P. Nadda will soon reach Chennai and have a meeting with the AIADMK leadership and iron out the differences.
