TN Speaker refers newspaper report to Assembly privileges committee

Tamil Nadu Speaker, M. Appavu has referred a breach of privilege issue against a Tamil news paper to the Privileges committee of the state assembly.

Tamil Nadu Speaker, M. Appavu has referred a breach of privilege issue against a Tamil news paper to the Privileges committee of the state assembly. This was against ‘denigrating’ state finance minister PTR Thiagarajan and other minister’s when the budget was presented in the state assembly on 20th March, Monday.

The Speaker said that on a prima facie view, the issues appeared to attract breach of privilege. M. Appavu referred the matter to the Privileges committee of the state assembly under rule 226 of the Assembly Rules.

The issue was raised in the assembly by Tamizhaga Vazhurimai Katchi (TVK) leader Panruti T. Velmurugan, DMK member, Saba Rajendran, and Congress legislative party leader Selvaperuthungai
