Five men drown to death during a temple festival in TN

Five young men who were taking part in the Theerthavari festival of Dharmalingam temple died by drowning

Chennai, April 5 (BPNS)

Five young men who were taking part in the Theerthavari festival of Dharmalingam temple died by drowning. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning in the Moovarasampet water tank near Keelkattalai in the suburbs of Chennai.

The five youths who are in the age group of 18- 23 drowned when they went for a bath in the temple pond.  The five men who had taken the idol for procession outside the temple compound went for a bath in the pond after the festivities were over. Two of them drowned and the three went to rescue them. All five, unfortunately, drowned in the water.

 The deceased are identified as Raghavan of Madippakam, Yogeswaran of Keelkattalai, Vanesh, Raghavan, and R. Surya of Nanganallur.

Palavathangal police along with Fire and Rescue personnel reached the spot after being alerted but could not save the five. The bodies were retrieved from the pond and sent to Government Hospital, Chrompet for postmortem.
