Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lashed out against political parties who were speaking high of President Draupadi Murmu as an eminent leader from the tribal community had run a bitter campaign against her before she got elected as the President of the country.
The Union minister was speaking to reporters at Rajbhavan here on Thursday.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that the political parties who are now speaking high of the president had infact earlier ‘abused’ her and spoke of her being a ‘rubber stamp’.
The Union minister said that she do not want to recall the words that was used by the opposition political parties on President before she got elected.
She said that these parties had even said that the President Draupadi Murmu represented ‘evil forces’ and not anything that the country required. Nirmala Sitharaman said that by the word, ‘evil forces’, the opposition political parties meant, the RSS.
The Union Finance minister said that the present government of the country gives high respect to the President of the country and added that the opposition political parties had not said anything to honour the President.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that it was Sonia Gandhi who had inaugurated the Chattisgarh assembly building and asked under what capacity she had done so. Nirmala said that going by the logic the opposition was raising now against the inauguration of the new parliament building by the Prime Minister, it would have been the Governor who should have inaugurated the Chattisgarh assembly building.
She said that Parliament was the Temple of Democracy and reminisced the Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying his respects by bowing his head with his forehead before entering the parliament in 2004.
The union finance minister also said that in her humble opinion it was not right for the opposition to boycott the inauguration of the new parliament building and appealed to the opposition parties to reconsider their decision to boycott the parliament.
She said that it was a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu to have the sceptre presented by the Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam to Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of independence to be installed in the new Lok sabha.
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, Puducherry, and Telangana Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan, Nagaland Governor L. Ganesan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries,L. Murugan and Tamil Nadu Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) P.K. Sekar Babu were present along with Nirmala Sitharaman during the Press Conference at the Rajbhavan.
