In an accident involving multiple collisions of four vehicles three people died and five were injured.
An ambulance driver and two paramedics were killed when their ambulance was hit by an Omni bus while they were shifting people injured in an accident.
The accident occurred on the Tiruchi- Chennai national highway near Perambalur around 3 a.m. on Monday.
The collision involved a tractor, a van, an ambulance and an Omni bus. The van first collided with the tractor while trying to overtake it. The tractor overturned and the van hit the centre median and came to a halt.
A ‘108’ ambulance reached the spot and while the driver of the ambulance and other paramedics were involved in shifting the passengers in the van to the ambulance, a speeding Omni bus hit the ambulance and then hit the median.
The ambulance driver, Rajendran, and paramedics, Kavipriya and Kuppuswamy died on the spot.
The tractor driver and occupants of the van who were injured have been admitted to government headquarters hospital in Perambalur.
