Chennai, June 11 (BPNS)
Union Home Minister and senior leader of the BJP who is on a two day tour of Tamil Nadu in the run upto the 2024 loksabha polls have said that a Tamil person from a poor family should become the Prime Minister of the country, according to sources in BJP.
He was addressing a closed door party office bearers meeting at Chennai South Loksabha constituency on Sunday.
Amit Shah took a dig at the DMK and late patriarch of the party, M. Karunanidhi and said that senior Congress leaders from Tamil Nadu like Kamaraj and Moopanar were Prime Minister materials but Karunanidhi had scuttled their chances.
The move of the Union Home minister, considered as a master of shrewd political moves ,seems to rake up Tamil feelings among the people of the state. The party has already taken up the Sengol from Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam as a sign of power and had installed it at the new parliament building with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself installing the ‘Sengol’ . This was a political move by the BJP to instill Tamil pride.
The call of Amit Shah for a Tamil Prime Minister is seen as a political move to corner the DMK which has already announced that it would win all the 39 loksabha seats from Tamil Nadu and the lone seat from Puducherry.
