Chennai, June 13 (BPNS)
The Mayiladuthurai district police have constituted five teams of police officers to probe into the death of two people who were found dead on Monday night reportedly after consuming liquor. Police told BPNS that the two persons were found dead on Monday night and a liquor bottle was found near them.
According to the police, on testing the liquor bottle, traces of Cyanide were found in it.
The deceased are identified as Palanigurunathan (59) of Thathankudi main road, Kuthalam taluk in Mayiladuthurai district, and Poorasami (63) of the same locality. Palanigurunathan was a blacksmith and was running a workshop where Poorasami was employed.
However police are to ascertain the cause of death and are waiting for a detailed report of the viscera.
Sources in the police however said that this could be a case of suicide but are tight-lipped on why the two have died together. A senior official with the Mayiladuthurai police told BPNS that it has to be found out whether one of the two had deliberately laced the liquor with cyanide with the intention of killing.
It may be recalled that a few days before two people died in Thanjavur after consuming liquor from a Tasmac shop and it was found that one of the persons had laced the liquor with cyanide and committed suicide. However the other person consumed the remaining liquor without knowing that it was laced with cyanide poison.
