Senthil Balaji to continue in Stalin cabinet as minister without portfolio

Tamil Nadu minister for electricity, excise and prohibition, Senthil Balaji who was arrested on early hours of Wednesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will continue in the cabinet of M.K. Stalin.

Tamil Nadu minister for electricity, excise and prohibition, Senthil Balaji who was arrested on early hours of Wednesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will continue in the cabinet of M.K. Stalin. However he will be devoid of his portfolios.

The Electricity portfolio of the minister will henceforth be handled by state finance minister, Thangam Thenarasu who has recently replaced the high profile , PTR Thiagarajan.

Senior leader and Tamil Nadu minister for housing,Erode Muthuswamy will hold additional charge of Excise and Prohibition.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin has made a recommendation to this effect with Governor R.N. Ravi. 

It may be noted that immediately after the arrest, the minister had complained of chest pain and was admitted to the Omandarur multispecialty hospital. He has undergone an angiogram test and doctors have found that the minister was having three blocks in his coronary artery and was recommended an immediate bypass surgery.

Senthil Balaji was arrested by the ED sleuths in a case related to job for cash scam in Tamil Nadu transport corporation while he was a minister in the AIADMK government of late Jayalalithaa during the period of 2011-16. Balaji had resigned from the AIADMK and later joined the DMK and was made a minister in the Stalin cabinet.
